Yes, please allow lane keep and centering (auto steering) on all roads. Just did a road trip from Minneapolis to Denver - having Driver + disengage every 2-4 miles on I-80 (Major interstate) was annoying.

I don’t understand the logic Rivian uses on where you can use Driver+. It’s annoying and dangerous that on the same highway it works and the. It doesn’t. Just let us be the judge. Let us use Driver + on any road.

Will the current R models get anything better than what we have now... seeing that the R2 and R3 (likely even the refreshed R1 line) are getting better cameras, sensors, and higher computing that what currently exists?

As evidenced on 2024.03.00 changelog more roads (highways connecting highways) are being enabled for highway/lane assist features.

More access when utilizing Driver + would be a positive. Another idea would be to license basic autopilot and or FSD from Tesla. Car already has the cameras necesssary I believe. I would imagine this would probably fall into the category of things they don't want to do in order to keep control of the software stack just based on comments made about Apple CarPlay

David Fontneau: I highly doubt that A) Tesla is going to license their only differentiating feature, and B) that its plug and play with rivians systems. It’s up to rivian to make their own
David Fontneau
Irfan: Tesla has already expressed willingness to license FSD in their earnings calls. That being said I doubt it would be cheap lol

At a minimum, we should be able to get the basic lane-keeping assistance that comes with a base model Honda today.

Jason Stanfield Agreed, I appreciated this even on local streets in my crappy Honda. Additionally, we don't even get lane centering on some freeways like 405 in socal where there are clearly demarked lanes but there also a protected expressway.

This request is misnamed - I think the OP must be thinking of "Highway Assist." Driver+ (as I understand it) is actually the name for an entire suite of features, most of which work anywhere. The features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Automatic High Beams, Park Assist, Forward Collision Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking, etc. And yes, Highway Assist is also part of Driver+. One thing to be aware of is that Highway Assist will probably never be available on any roads which have intersections and are not "controlled access." As I understand it, that is (at least part of) the "recall" that Tesla just agreed to.

Other cars try to read lane lines to provide a best-guess type of lanekeeping assistance. While not as good as Driver+, it would still be better than nothing.

"Active Lane Keep" to just use lane markings where Driver+ hasn't been mapped and "always on" not requiring it to be set like cruise control.

My 2022 Kia Carnival did a great job a Highway Drive Assist HDA - which also worked great on small rural roads! It is just using the camera to follow the lane lines. Just have it do that!
