Rivian navigation is substandard compared to Apple or Google. The other day I was in carpool lane, navigation directed me to exit and get back on the freeway, this couldn't be the shortest or fastest route.

Some form of 'layers' concept would be cool to support different aspects like weather, social tags.and routing (Waze), off-road trails etc, so that we can ada whatever overlays we like and navigation will consider those inputs.

Everyone here should take the Rivian survey and tell them how bad the Rivian Navigation routing is. It’s the worst I’ve ever used. It’s sad that I need to use my phone simultaneously. In a place like Los Angeles, accurate traffic is everything. Not only is the traffic incorrect, but Rivian wants to take me into closed streets within fire zones from the Palisades fire! These roads have been closed for weeks and every map should know this.

Update? Haven't heard much about Waze integration for some time.

The maps need to be updated just like the Rivian systems. Directions leaving my home always show the longest way to leave my development. I had the same experience when using Waze. When I reported the issue to Waze, they identified that the correct route was blocked due to an incorrect “private” road setting. The problem was fixed on Waze but continues in Rivian GPS.

Does anyone know how the location services in the app works? Trying to determine if it's based on the default app on the phone or if this is a service where they the ping the vehicle and send it to a map provider

Agreed! I’ve only had my R1S for two weeks, and I have gotten lost countless numbers of times. The worst is in NYC. Terrible! I feel like I’m back in the 2010’s, it just keeps being unable to find where I actually am. So annoying. Missing my Tesla GPS.

Would also love to see onXoff road incorporated in this!
